InfoCamp 2011 Dial Image

InfoCamp Seattle visuals and artwork have traditionally been a subtle, but important way for us to unobtrusively influence the tone and timbre of the event. We use them as a seedbed to communicate what we think might be valuable concepts to be talked about during InfoCamp Seattle. We create the graphics with an eye to what we see as being important and timely, but also with the belief that campers can interpret the visuals in a way that leads to discussions.

This year we have been toying with how to represent one of the most core principles of InfoCamp, which is combination of various and different ideas, perspectives, disciplines and people. we believe this remixing or recombination leads to new ideas and connections that drive understanding, innovation and productive problem solving in all sorts of information spaces. Sometimes this happens from expected interactions, other times from seemingly random or unpredictable directions. We love it when we are surprised by what and where we learn from!

This year’s artwork concepts have been centered around expressing that spirit of recombination. We have played with mixing random or conceptually opposite ideas and seeing how they work juxtaposed to each other, like different text fonts or ketchup wielding knights. We have examined machine equipment, dashboards, slot machines, dials, watches and even monster trucks. We especially liked the implications of a low level of permanence and allowing for quick manipulation, like sticky notes and labels from old school label makers. Throughout the next few months we will look to putting things in the conceptual blender and see how many ways we represent recombination… and, of course, we’d love to see how you might mash ideas together to represent what InfoCamp means to you! If you have a way to communicate the recombination, visual or otherwise, please post it below or via Twitter with a #infocamp tag.
